About the LMT

Laura Owen, LMT (MAT# 14758), grew up in outback Australia where there was endless room for running and anything else a kid wanted to try out. I eventually took off to New York City to become a professional  dancer, worked in biomedical research, went to nursing school, and finally landed here in Hawai’i. I reconnected with running, discovered outrigger paddling, and decided the time had come to find satisfying work that helps active people maintain healthy bodies and continue achieving whatever their hearts (and legs) desire.

Why sports and orthopedic massage? Injuries. A lifetime of activity makes a serious injury almost inevitable, and the value of massage in treating injures and helping prevent them became obvious to me. With our healthcare system becoming increasingly burdened, it can sometimes be difficult to find a practitioner who understands the value of fine-tuning literally everything so that we can perform at our absolute highest standards.

My work is for those who care about the details, work hard and want to do even better, and want to learn more about getting and staying healthy. My practice uses evidence-based techniques and a solid background in anatomy and kinesiology. I look forward to helping you meet your goals – Aloha!

Education

I was trained in massage therapy at Hawai’i Healing Arts College here on O’ahu and learned my deep tissue techniques from Mel Cash of the London School of Sports Massage. I’m currently obtaining full-body certification in Clinical Orthopedic Massage from the Orthopedic Massage Education and Research Institute (OMERI) and through Joseph Muscolino’s COMT certification program, The Art and Science of Kinesiology.
